Carriers Drive to open to traffic after warehouse fire

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – In response to severe traffic congestion caused by a warehouse fire near the Laredo city limits, the Laredo Fire Department announced plans to reopen Carriers Drive at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29.

The move comes as authorities seek to improve traffic flow in the area after significant delays for area drivers. Northbound exits 12A, 12B and Mile Marker 13 will remain closed. Trailers needing access to Carriers Drive will be redirected to Mile Marker 18 to turn around and head south.

The fire was reported Tuesday, May 28 near Carriers Drive and South Unitec Drive. Around 4 p.m., firefighters confirmed they had brought the fire under control and were working to prevent it from reigniting due to high temperatures.

Although the building was engulfed in flames, authorities managed to bring the situation under control. They coordinated with the utility department to ensure an adequate water supply to extinguish the fire.

Fortunately, all occupants safely evacuated the building before the fire worsened. However, a firefighter was injured while battling the blaze.

The Laredo Fire Department provided a live stream of the area, which you can watch here.
