Carbon County sheriffs report increase in scam callers posing as deputies | Billing News

CARBON COUNTY, Mt. – The Carbon County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) reports that their dispatch has received an increasing number of calls from residents saying they have been contacted by individuals claiming to be Carbon County or Yellowstone Sheriff's deputies.

In the announcement, CCSO reminded residents that law enforcement will not contact you by telephone to inform you of a warrant, that you owe money, or if you are facing the threat of arrest .

CCSO recommends not answering the phone if you do not recognize the number calling you. If you respond, do not disclose ANY personal or financial information.

According to CCSO, fraudsters will use threats and intimidation to obtain personal information from scam victims.

If in doubt, CCSO advises you to hang up and contact dispatch directly to confirm if a deputy is actually trying to reach you.
