Car hits fire hydrant, passes through window of Kingsessing home before crashing into residence

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A car hit a fire hydrant, throwing it through a window before crashing into a home in Philadelphia's Kingsessing neighborhood Saturday night, fire crews told CBS News Philadelphia.

Eyewitnesses and fire crews described a chain reaction in which a car hit a fire hydrant, sending it flying into a residence's window before the two crashed into a house near South Frazier Street and Greenway Avenue.

Fortunately, no one inside the home at the time was injured, crews told CBS News Philadelphia. After the accident, the driver was able to exit the vehicle and was taken to hospital.

The city's Department of Licensing and Inspections is currently assessing the home's porch support beams that were damaged. Another house nearby was also damaged in the accident.
