Car hit by Metra train near Ingleside, causing delays

INGLESIDE, Ill. — Metra riders faced delays Sunday night after a train struck a car near Ingleside.

According to Fox Lake Fire Protection District officials, crews were called to the scene just after 8 p.m. and found a car with heavy front-end damage.


Firefighters said the driver and passenger were out of the car and walking when crews arrived on scene.

In an article on Metra officials said It was MDN train 2621 that struck the vehicle near Ingleside.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the accident and firefighters say it is unclear whether the driver stopped at the stop sign before the train tracks or crossed them.

The crossing where the incident occurred does not have a signal arm, only a stop sign.

Metra said inbound train 2620, which was scheduled to depart Fox Lake at 8:25 p.m., was delayed due to the incident.

Inbound and outbound Milwaukee North trains were also stopped near Ingleside due to the crash, and Metra officials said significant delays were expected.

It is unclear how long the delays will last.

Both people involved were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No passengers on the train were injured.
