Cape Town man arrested for firing gun inside his home | News, Sports, Jobs

Jarred Hill

A Cape Coral man was arrested Thursday night after firing a gun inside a home, allegedly pointing it at someone.

Jarred Hill, 30, was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, battery, contact or battery and resisting an officer without violence.

Cape Coral Police Department officials said that on July 4, around 9:30 p.m., officers were called to a home on Southwest Cape for a report of shots fired.

CCPD officials said when they arrived, there was a large crowd of people outside the home drinking and lighting fireworks. Witnesses told police that Hill said he wanted to shoot his rifle into the air while the fireworks were being set off.

The police said: “A person at the party recognized that Mr. Hill had been drinking and that this was dangerous behavior. She took the rifle and placed it inside, away from Mr. Hill and the crowd.”

CCPD officials said Hill followed the individual into the home and a verbal and physical argument ensued.

“The person stated that she turned around and Mr. Hill pointed a black handgun at her. Mr. Hill fired one round, missing,” police said in a statement.

Following the CCPD investigation, officers recovered the rifle and handgun and found “significant damage” to the door frame inside the house. A shell casing was also found on the floor.

While handcuffed, Hill resisted officers' attempts to arrest him, authorities said.

As of noon Friday, Hill remained in custody at the Lee County Jail. His bail has not yet been set.
