Cancun judge sentences woman to more than four years in prison for luring girls on Facebook

Cancun, QR — A Cancun judge sentenced a woman to more than four years in prison for human trafficking in the form of prostitution. Ligia Johana “N” was sentenced to four years and nine months on Saturday for luring girls online via Facebook.

“Thanks to the abbreviated procedure, the State Attorney General (FGE) obtained a sentence of four years and nine months in prison against a woman for the crime of trafficking in human beings in the form of prostitution of others,” a declared the FGE (Fiscalía General Del Estado). reported.

“The conviction of Ligia Johana “N”, alias “La Hondureña”, stems from a cyber-patrol carried out by elements of the judicial police assigned to the special prosecutor's office for the fight against trafficking and exploitation crimes during which they detected a profile on the social network Facebook. from which various publications aimed at young women were produced offering to earn up to 5,000 pesos per week,” the agency explained.

“These types of posts are usually misleading because they offer large sums of money without specifying the work to be done. Suspecting illegal acts, an undercover agent contacted the telephone number listed in the ad to apply for a job.

“In the conversation via WhatsApp, they told her that it was a job as an escort in a brothel where she would offer sexual services to clients, assuring her that they were also recruiting minors.

“The appointment for the final interview was scheduled for April 11, 2023, at an address on Ignacio López Rayón Street at SM 223 in Cancun where Ligia Johana “N” was detained and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

“A judge pronounced an additional sentence of four years and nine months, to which the convict will have to pay a fine of 93,366 pesos,” details the FGE report.
