June 14th is recognized as Flag Day here in the United States of America. This is the date in 1777 when the Second Continental Congress adopted our nation's famous red, white and blue flag. And now that our nation has grown from those original 13 colonies to 50 large states, how many state flags do you think you can identify?

Flag Day Quiz: Can You Identify All 50 State Flags?

To be honest, I'm not even sure I can identify the flags of all the states I've lived in during my life. These include New York, Vermont, Colorado, Tennessee, California and finally Nevada for 30 years.

I'm pretty sure I can identify both California and Nevada, because the state name is actually printed on these flags. Plus, these are the newest states I've lived in.

On the other hand, I'm not sure I could quickly identify the flags of all the other states in which I have resided. With that in mind, I thought it was interesting to see the results of Sporcle's “US State Flags” quiz. People at FreeBets.com provided us with results from over 471,000 participants.

Now the difficult part of this quiz is that you only have 10 minutes to complete it. It's a difficult task. The other factor that makes this more difficult is that the quiz creator removed the state names from any flags, such as Nevada or California, that include it.

Flag Day Quiz Results

It turns out that California has the most recognizable state flag. More than 88% of people who took the quiz identified this big bear as the flag of the Golden State.

The next easiest state flags to identify were Texas (No. 2), Colorado (No. 3), Washington (No. 4), and then Alaska and Maryland tied for fifth rank.

Unfortunately, the Nevada flag could only be identified by 43.8% of quiz takers, putting us in 35th place.th out of 50 state flags. Our northern Idaho neighbors have the least recognizable state flag, according to results provided by FreeBets.com.

My results on the Flag Day quiz? Terrible. I got 27 out of 50, but I cheated by looking at this illustration.

An illustration including the flag of the United States of America, all 50 American state flags, and a map of the United States with part of each state flag representing the state's location on our nation's map.

If I hadn't cheated, I might have gotten 5 or 6 out of 50.
