(KRON) — The Campbell Police Department arrested 25-year-old Campbell resident Nicholas Hosteter on Saturday in connection with a previous incident in which he punched a 75-year-old man in the face on Friday. Hosteter was also arrested for kicking a police officer during his arrest, police said.

On Friday, around 11:20 a.m., CPD officers responded to reports of a battery in the area of Inwood Drive and Elam Avenue. Officers learned that about two hours earlier, a 75-year-old man had been “randomly struck in the face while he was walking,” CPD said.

When the 75-year-old victim and his family returned to the scene to look for surveillance cameras, they again encountered the suspect, who attempted to fight with the family before leaving, police said.

Saturday morning, police contacted Hosteter's parents. With their help, Hosteter was arrested while leaving his residence. During his arrest, however, he tried to resist by kicking a police officer, police said.

Hosteter has since been booked into Santa Clara County Jail on two counts of elder abuse and battery on a police officer, police said.

“We can’t thank our community enough for their partnership in incidents like these. We can assure you that our officers are working diligently to thoroughly investigate these incidents,” CPD said.
