Calumet Fisheries reopens this weekend after months of closure – NBC Chicago

Months after suffering a major fire in November 2023, iconic Chicago restaurant Calumet Fisheries is set to reopen Saturday morning, according to a Facebook post.

Originally opened in 1928 and family-run since 1948, Calumet Fisheries will reopen at 9 a.m. Saturday, although the establishment has warned that smoked fish won't be available until the afternoon.

The restaurant, located at 3259 East 95th Street in the South Deering neighborhood, will be open 9 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

In keeping with what has long been known as part of the Far Southeast Side dining experience, Calumet Fisheries remains cash only and no indoor seating is available.

Customers often park along 95th Street in front of the restaurant, and many customers eat in their vehicles. According to the restaurant, it's also common for diners to picnic in the grassy area outside the building or even walk across the nearby bridge to eat at Calumet Park.

The long-awaited reopening comes months after a major fire in November 2023, shortly after the restaurant underwent renovations.

More information can be found on the restaurant's website.
