Call of Duty's New Fried Weapon Is Really Weird

Modern Call of Duty games have no shortage of exotic weapons, but a new “Extra Crispy” weapon discovered by dataminer RealityUK is arguably the franchise’s most absurd yet. The weapon’s wonderfully silly trailer shows an operator dressed to kill in a chicken suit, unleashing extra-crispy bullets on his opponents and turning them into pieces of fried chicken.

Things get even more ridiculous when the weapon is inspected, as it involves shoving a raw chicken onto the barrel and cooking it for a quick meal. For now, the weapon is exclusive to Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile and will be an optional cosmetic. Is it weird? Absolutely. Is it slightly disturbing to think that a pile of crispy chicken nuggets that was once a human being could look so delicious? We try not to think about it too much.

Like many other live games, cosmetics like this have helped Call of Duty stand out from the crowd. While Fortnite has built a massive metaverse of pop culture crossovers, Call of Duty has followed in its footsteps with several Operator Packs, some of which have focused on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Warhammer 40K, and Tomb Raider. Weapon skin packs have even referenced games and anime, like Crash Bandicoot and Attack on Titan, so a weapon that turns enemies into the best lunch meal isn't too surprising.

If you prefer more ground-based weapons, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be rebooting the cosmetic arsenal when it launches later this year, as Modern Warfare 2 and 3's packs won't be carrying over. That should make things more serious at launch, at least for a while.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released on October 25 for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, with a Game Pass launch on day one.
