TUCSON, Ariz. — Authorities have released video footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting during a domestic violence call in April in east Tucson.

The incident began around 10 p.m. on April 3 when police were called to a home in the 7300 block of Calle Merida Est, near East Broadway and South Kolb Road, according to the video report released by the team Pima Critical Incident Regional. The multi-agency law enforcement group here is investigating police shooting incidents.

A 911 caller told police that Jacob Keith Dyer, 27, was intoxicated and had assaulted people in the home. The caller said he took a knife from Dyer and shotgun shells from the house and was waiting for police outside.

Police were told Dyer had mental health issues and had become “unusually violent” after drinking. They were also told there were several weapons inside the home.

At one point during the standoff, police used a less-than-lethal measure to try to stop Dyer from getting into a vehicle parked in the front yard. He was able to run back inside. As negotiations continued, police say Dyer exhibited “erratic behavior, including yelling, breaking glass which caused him injuries,” as well as “using a shotgun multiple times.” repeats”.

Officer Kyle Frank, a 16-year veteran of the Tucson police force, shot Dyer as he stood outside the slightly open front door, pointing a gun at the officers, the video shows.

No other officers were injured.

Seven weapons and several hundred cartridges were found inside the house.

The investigation continues. The findings of the investigation conducted by the Pima County Sheriff's Department will be forwarded to the Pima County Prosecutor's Office, which is standard procedure.

Anyone with information or video of the standoff is asked to contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900.
