Businesses and teens have the opportunity to meet face-to-face at a career fair

MINNEAPOLIS — Local businesses are looking to hire high school graduates for part-time and full-time jobs.

Employers from all industry sectors have set up shop at the CTE North Tech Center at North High School to look for workers. Their target demographic, high school graduates.

“I feel like because they're all here, I have a lot more opportunities than if I just applied online, because for some of these organizations, I probably wouldn't have looked them up,” Jonathan said Sims, a graduate of Edison High School. .

He wants to get into health care and help the elderly.

“Right now I'm looking at health care services, so the recent one I just went to was like a senior living facility,” Sims said.

Most of these employers are hiring for the summer, some students will continue after they enter college. Other professions are like on-the-job training, for a lifelong career.

“I feel like it's really good for us seniors looking for jobs and careers that we're interested in,” said South High School graduate Ayanle Gedi.

Ayanle Gedi is charting her path to a future in IT.

He stopped by a potential employer, Smart North, hoping the job there would be a good fit for him.

“I am interested in a position in IT or cybersecurity and hope to find a good job where I can help my family and my community,” Gedi said. “It will be very rewarding for me.”

“We want to make sure that our young people are able to be competitive when they reach adulthood when they enter the workforce and without exposure to these emerging technologies it will be very difficult to achieve that,” he said. said Tayo Daniel, CEO of Smart North.

He believes a partnership with Minneapolis Public Schools is a great way to provide opportunities for young people.

“So we expose them to 3D printers, virtual reality, AR cybersecurity, IT help desk and much more, and it's very important to do that from a young age,” Daniel said.

Seniors benefit from one-on-one interviews with employers, they can also print resumes and get important job interview tips.

“Right now I'm moving into radiology because they told me about this travel job where the company pays them to go to different states,” said Rafael Toledo, a Southwestern High School graduate .

He thinks he's hit the jackpot. The perfect job that could eventually lead to the perfect career for him.
