Bushfire ignites in Hesperia

A brush fire broke out in Hesperia and quickly burned more than 300 acres Saturday, prompting an evacuation warning in the Lake Arrowhead Estates neighborhood, officials said.

The fire was first reported shortly after 6 p.m. along the 18000 block of Highway 173, east of Arrowhead Lake Road, according to CALFIRE, which joined San County firefighters Bernardino to fight the fire.

A structure was initially believed to have been threatened by the wildfire, which was being pushed northward by strong winds carried by light and highly combustible fuels.

CALFIRE estimated the bushfire to be 300 acres as of 8:20 p.m.

California Highway Patrol officers closed some nearby roads as firefighters attacked the flames from the ground and air, CALFIRE officials said.

No official evacuations had been ordered as of 8 p.m., but authorities were monitoring the situation in case it became necessary, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez said.

Residents in the Lake Arrowhead Estates neighborhood have been placed under an evacuation warning, CALFIRE officials said.
