Burning permits suspended in several Northern California counties as fire season continues

(FOX40.COM) — As California faces an active fire season, several Northern California counties have suspended burning permits for outdoor residential fires effective Monday, June 17.

Cal Fire Amador-El Dorado Unit and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit said areas included are Alpine, Amador, El Dorado, Sacramento counties , San Joaquin, Nevada, Yuba, Placer and Sierra.


Cal Fire Amador said the new burn permit restrictions are in addition to those imposed in other areas of Amador and El Dorado counties on June 10.

“This suspension takes effect on Monday June 17, 2024, at 8 a.m. and prohibits any residential outdoor burning of landscape debris such as branches and leaves,” Cal Fire said.

It continues: “While outdoor burning of landscape debris by homeowners is no longer permitted, CAL FIRE asks residents to take this extra time to ensure they are prepared for wildfires by maintaining a minimum of 100 feet of defensible space around each house and by building on it. their belongings and be prepared to evacuate if the time comes.

The announcement comes as Northern California faces an active fire season, including a recent 800-acre fire in Sacramento, a 1,000-acre fire in Butte County and a 14,000-acre fire in San Joaquin County by July 1.

Here are some tips Cal Fire offers to help Californians prepare their homes and properties for fire:

  • Clear all dead or dying vegetation 100 feet around all structures.
  • Landscape with fire-resistant plants and non-flammable ground cover.
  • Find other ways to dispose of landscape debris, such as shredding it or transporting it to a biomass energy or green waste facility.
