Burglary suspects arrested after pursuit in Watertown

WATERTOWN, SD (Dakota News Now) – Two men suspected of crimes in Sioux Falls and Brookings were found in a stolen vehicle in Watertown on Saturday.

According to the Codington County Sheriff's Office, officers located a stolen Toyota Prius at a convenience store east of Watertown around 11:33 p.m. on June 1. When they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled and a pursuit on Highway 212 was initiated. .

The individuals in the vehicle were apprehended at a convenience store on the west side of Watertown. Arrested were Jovaun Clayton, 31, and Mallie Schloesser Jr., 31, of Sioux Falls.

Clayton and Schloesser Jr. were also found to be suspects in a burglary in Sioux Falls and criminal charges in Brookings.

Clayton, who is currently on parole, was charged with aggravated fleeing, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, stop sign violation, reckless driving, obstruction, driving without headlights and driving without a license. He is currently being held at the Codington County Detention Center on $5,000 cash-only bail.

Schloesser Jr. was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession or use of drug paraphernalia and receiving stolen property. He is being held at the Codington County Detention Center on $3,000 cash-only bail.
