Bubba Wallace responds after missing his chance at the Sonoma pole

Although he made strides to improve on the road courses, Bubba Wallace was more than frustrated with his performance in NASCAR Sonoma qualifying. He was crazy enough to talk about it online.

Short tracks and road courses have been a struggle for Bubba Wallace in the Cup Series. Over the last two years in particular, Wallace has worked very hard on his racing craft in these types of events.

Although he has improved, Wallace considers himself a top 10 driver. When he doesn't qualify very well, it's a big problem for him. Especially with all the work its 23 teams put into the road course program.

The 18th place in qualifying upset him quite a bit to tweet that afterwards.

Joey Logano was the pole winner, scoring his third of the season.

“It’s funny how that works, isn’t it?” Wallace told the media after qualifying. “Always the same frustrations, always the same irritation. God, I just need to be happier, it could be better. … No, I know, it's that you work and put in the hours for Sonoma, and for all road races, we put in the work and the effort. However, my first lap on the track is usually the fastest of all and then I never go any faster. So you have to figure out how to continue to find speed.

As for the race, there is repaving across the entire track and a new wall on the inside of turn 11. Will this create even more chaos and cautions? Bubba Wallace says it's all about the field.

“It just depends on how everyone wakes up in the morning and how we're going to play. So just try to get everyone to run the way you want to be run and see how it goes. But overall, you just have to make the most of it and see what happens.

Disappointing result, but not the end of his weekend.

Bubba Wallace can save Sonoma's weekend

The last thing Bubba Wallace needs to do is get in his head about this. Denny Hamlin, his boss, won the pole a year ago and qualified 25th overall. So this is all relative. However, one mistake cannot turn into more.

Wallace only has an all-time best finish of P17 at Sonoma. This took place over the course of five track races in the Cup Series. Actually, it was last season. Funny enough, Bubba also qualified 18th in last year's race.

He can look at it two ways: passing will be difficult but it might not be so bad. Holding serve and finishing in the top 20 is the least Wallace can do. He's currently in a winless points battle, and he's on the right side of that battle at the moment.

Bubba Wallace wasn't happy after qualifying. He can't let that get in his way on Sunday, though.
