MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Brownsville man was arrested Thursday after a high-speed chase through three West Tennessee counties that ended with a manhunt in Covington.

The Covington Police Department said the pursuit began in Haywood County, where officers attempted to stop a Chevrolet Cruze that was traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 19.

They say the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze deliberately rammed his vehicle into a Haywood County patrol vehicle, then continued into Lauderdale County, then into Tipton County.

Covington police were notified by dispatchers at 6 p.m. Officers said they saw the Chevrolet turn onto Tatlock Avenue.

The driver got out and ran into a wooded area behind Walmart. A passenger remained inside the vehicle and followed officers' commands, police said.

Officers from Covington, Tipton and Haywood counties established a perimeter to search for the driver. Covington police deployed a drone and a K-9 officer.

Tyler Hudson, 23, of Brownsville, was seen lying under a tree around 6:30 p.m. Police said he resisted arrest when they found him, injuring a Covington police officer. He was taken to the Haywood County Jail.

Hudson is charged by the Haywood County Sheriff's Office with aggravated assault, speeding, criminal fleeing and kidnapping. He will then be taken to Covington where he will be charged with vandalism, assault on a first responder and resisting arrest; and Tipton County, where he will be charged with felony escape.
