Brookville woman gets 4.5 to 10 years for stabbing | News

BROOKVILLE — A Brookville woman was sentenced to 4 1/2 to 10 years in a state correctional facility, followed by 10 years of probation, after pleading guilty but mentally ill to aggravated assault during an assault with a knife in September.Paige Nicole Lander, 23, initially faced charges including attempted murder in the case.According to Spirit reports at the time, the incident began when state police were called looking for Lander after a relative found a suicide note in his bedroom. The police pinged his cell phone in the Warsaw commune. Along the way, they received another call to the area where Lander's cell phone was located, where they found the victim with multiple stab wounds. While being transported for medical treatment, he identified Lander as his attacker.At the time, police said several of the victim's stab wounds were deep, including one that reached the bone.During an interview at the hospital, the victim told police that Lander hid in the backseat of his vehicle. As he left for work that day, he found his vehicle blocking the end of his driveway. That's when Lander attacked him with the knife, cutting him several times as he struggled to get the weapon off him. He managed to get out of the car and Lander ran to his own vehicle and fled the scene.Police found her at her residence with blood on her pants and shoes. They found a bloodstained wipe and a folding knife in his vehicle.
