Bronx man charged with fatally stabbing ex outside her apartment

NEW YORK (1010 VICTORY/WCBS 880) – A Bronx man was charged Wednesday for allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend outside her Washington Heights apartment last month, prosecutors said.

Tyquane Jemmott, 33, was charged with one count of second-degree murder for allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Shirley Rodriguez, 29, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced.

According to court documents, Rodriguez broke up with Jemmott in early May after dating for nearly two years. On May 20, Jemmott allegedly waited outside the victim's apartment building for more than two hours, hiding behind her car, until she left the building around 5:30 a.m. An Uber was waiting outside to take him to work, prosecutors said.

Before he could enter, Jemmott allegedly jumped from where he was hiding and ran toward Rodriguez and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Rodriguez was able to rock her apartment and when her mother, father and sister came downstairs, she told her sister, “Ty did this to me,” according to court documents.

Police responded to the scene and found her unresponsive and unresponsive, with multiple stab wounds to her body. She was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem where she was later pronounced dead.

“As is alleged, after waiting for hours outside Shirley Rodriguez's home, Tyquane Jemmott jumped from behind a car as she was exiting and killed himself in a series of stabbings,” said the prosecutor Bragg. “Shirley Rodriguez was loved by her family, including her mother, father and sister who so tragically had to hear this young woman's last words as she succumbed to her injuries. My thoughts are with them as they continue to mourn his loss.

Jemmott was arrested at a family member's apartment building in the Bronx later that afternoon.
