Bronx man arrested for robbery

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) — State Police arrested a Bronx man for allegedly stealing a car with a fake cashier's check. Alex Almonte, 23, faces several charges in connection with the incident.

Charges

  • Second degree grand larceny
  • Second-degree possession of a counterfeit instrument
  • First degree falsification of business records
  • Violation of traffic and vehicle laws

Police say they received a complaint on April 4 from a Saratoga County resident saying his car had been stolen. Police say their investigation determined the victim agreed to sell her car to Almonte, who gave her a fake cashier's check totaling more than $50,000 for the vehicle.

Upon further investigation, police report that Almonte falsified Department of Motor Vehicles documents and sold the car shortly after allegedly stealing it. Police say they found the car in Brooklyn on April 5.

Almonte turned himself in to state police where he was arrested. He was arraigned in Clifton Park Municipal Court and released.
