Broken perfume bottles and Elden Ring's most powerful weapon are no more thanks to a new Shadow of the Erdtree patch

A new Elden Ring patch has just nerfed Shadow of the Erdtree's most powerful weapon, and also changed a crucial Ash of War.

Elden Ring patch 1.12.3 was released earlier today on July 4, and brings changes such as resetting the positions of the Golden Hippo and Commander Gaius when you fight them again. In addition, the patch also changed the Blood Demon's Arm, fixing a bug where the Arcane scaling with the Colossal weapon was higher than intended, and reducing the status stack of the weapon's heavy attacks.

This is huge, as it completely destroys a tactic that players were using to destroy the final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree in just 11 hits. We won't give away the final boss here, but the Blood Demon Arm unique ability was used to repeatedly stagger enemies and lock them into an endless cycle of destruction, which should now be over.

Additionally, the Rolling Sparks War Ash, which made Perfume Flasks equally overpowered, has been weakened. A bug caused Perfume Flasks to deal “more damage than intended,” another tactic that has disappeared for players who like to blast their way through boss fights and PvP encounters.

The Lightning and Frenzyflame perfume bottles were actually dealing twice as much damage as intended “under certain circumstances”, but this has been weakened again directly since Shadow of the Erdtree. No more overpowered perfume bottles for anyone.

Unfortunately, there's no fix for the issue that caused a duplicate of Shadow of the Erdtree's final boss to spawn for unlucky players. This isn't exactly a surprise – the bug was only discovered in the last few days – but consider it a warning that you might be facing two versions of the DLC's fearsome final boss at once.
