Broken Arrow police release body camera footage showing man arrested and charged with parking violation

Broken Arrow police released body camera video Wednesday after arresting a man for illegal parking in their cul-de-sac.

The video shows Richard McMahon slamming the door in the officer's face as they tried to talk to him, leading to him being arrested for resisting arrest.

Some neighbors say McMahon is harassing them and calling the police for no good reason.

McMahon told News On Wednesday 6 that he could not interview until he had spoken to his lawyer.

“Hey, I'm investigating a traffic crime, you have no right to do that,” an officer is heard saying on the video.

Broken Arrow police officers say McMahon first called police about another person parking illegally, but officers say McMahon was the one who parked his car sideways in the cul-de-sac and didn't let people pass.

“The way he parked is legal,” an officer is heard saying on the body camera footage. “The way you were parked when I arrived was not parked. So I need to see your driver's license so I can issue you a citation for blocking the roadway.”

“I didn’t block the road,” McMahon says on the body camera footage.

The video shows McMahon and the officer fighting while the officer places him in handcuffs.

“I never resisted you at first,” McMahon is heard saying in the video.

“Yes, you did,” the officer said.

“You hit me,” McMahon said.

“It’s all captured on the body camera, sir,” the officer said.

“Yes, that’s true,” McMahon said.

The officer says on the video that they were called to McMahon's home multiple times because he had called the cops on his neighbors.

“I hate this guy,” the officer says in the video. “I hate Richard McMahon. I do not care.”

Chyanne Armstrong lives next door and says McMahon called the police several times for letting her children play in her own yard.

“After the police left that day, he stood in his garden, in his backyard, and yelled at my son and told my four-year-old son that he was going to die soon because his mother didn’t know how to take care of him,” Armstrong said.

Records show McMahon has had three protective orders issued against him in the past 11 months, including one last week.

He was also charged with seven counts of violating protective orders and one count each of assault and battery, as well as one count each of criminal damage to property and resisting arrest.

Armstrong hopes more will be done to keep neighbors safe.

“We want our kids to be able to play outside without worrying about them getting hurt or getting run over,” Armstrong said.

Broken Arrow police are still investigating the incident and say the officer has been placed on routine administrative leave.
