Brockton man arrested for double stabbing that killed one person

A Randolph man was arrested Wednesday in Vermont after allegedly stabbing and killing one man and seriously injuring another in Brockton, officials said.

Kevin Digregorio, 33, is charged with murder and other charges, authorities said.

Vermont State Police and U.S. Marshals found Digregorio sleeping in a vehicle Wednesday morning on a road in Lunenberg, Vermont, Plymouth County Prosecutor Timothy J. Cruz's office said Wednesday in a communicated.

Around 7:40 p.m. Monday, state police were notified of a stabbing at 23 Melrose Ave. in Brockton, according to Cruz's office. Two men were transported to local hospitals.

William Hewlett, 59, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he died from his injuries, authorities said. An unidentified 61-year-old man was seriously injured, according to Brockton police. He was taken to South Shore Hospital and released, Cruz's office said.

“At first glance, this does not appear to be a random act of violence,” Cruz’s office said in the statement.

Digregorio faces restitution proceedings in Vermont and will next be arraigned in Brockton District Court at a later date, according to Cruz's office.
