Brockton double stabbing suspect arrested, victim identified

The suspect in a double stabbing in Brockton that left one person dead was arrested Wednesday morning in Vermont, the office of Plymouth County Prosecutor Timothy J. Cruz announced.

Kevin Digregorio, 33, of Randolph, was found by Vermont State Police and U.S. Marshals while sleeping in a car along the road in Lunenberg, Vermont. On Wednesday morning, Cruz's office said in a statement statement. He was arrested and will be arraigned on a murder charge in Brockton District Court.

Massachusetts State Police responded to the stabbing at 23 Melrose Ave. Monday evening, according to Cruz's office. Two men were transported to area hospitals.

One victim, identified as William Hewlett, 59, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. The second victim, a 61-year-old man, was treated and released from South Shore Hospital.

Massachusetts State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Digregorio after investigating the stabbing, the district attorney's office said. The preliminary investigation suggests the incident “does not appear to be a random act of violence,” according to authorities.
