British girl, 13, dies during family vacation in Florida after being found 'unresponsive' in Discovery Cove pool

A BRITISH teenager has died during a family holiday in Florida after being found unconscious in a theme park swimming pool.

Anna Beaumont, 13, from Cardiff, drowned at Discovery Cove in Orlando.

Emergency services rushed to the station around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday after she was found unconscious in the water.

Anna was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died there on Wednesday.

Police said: “We are sorry to report that on May 29, 2024, 13-year-old Anna Beaumont was pronounced dead in hospital.

“Any information on the cause and manner of his death should come from the medical examiner’s office.”

The teenager's death was ruled an accidental drowning by authorities – but remains under investigation.

A Discovery Cove spokesperson said “staff responded to an emergency involving a guest” and called Orange County Fire and Rescue.

The statement continued: “When paramedics arrived, they took over treatment and transported the guest to a nearby hospital.

“Our hearts go out to this family, and out of respect for their privacy, we will not make any further comments.”

Andrew Williams, headteacher of the youth school, told the BBC: “The mere thought of losing a child is an unimaginable journey.

“I know I speak for the entire school community when I say our hearts go out to Anna’s family as they try to come to terms with their loss.

“Anna was a valued member of our school family and her absence will be deeply felt by students, staff and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

“His spirit, kindness and presence touched so many lives.”

The teenager was a year 8 student at Radyr Comprehensive in Cardiff.

Discovery Cove is an all-inclusive resort and sister park to SeaWorld Orlando and Aquatica Orlando.

Its website says visitors can “swim with dolphins, snorkel with thousands of tropical fish and rays, hand feed exotic animals.” birds and relax on pristine beaches.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We are in contact with the family following the death of a child in the United States and are providing consular support during this difficult time. »
