British Columbia climbers missing for eight days as drone footage analyzed

Drone footage is being analyzed by members of search and rescue teams on Saturday after the group was missing for eight days.

Members of search and rescue teams will be busy over the coming days analyzing drone video footage for any signs of the three missing climbers.

No planes will fly over Garibaldi Provincial Park on Saturday.

Three people took a mountaineering trip to Atwell Peak but never returned on May 31. A family member reported them missing and the search began.

Squamish Search and Rescue, Whistler Search and Rescue, North Shore Rescue and RCMP are searching for the trio, but there have been no signs or words from the group.

Drones, avalanche dogs, helicopters, RECCO detector and local mountain guides have all contributed to the search to try to find them.

Squamish SAR Manager BJ Chute said air and ground searches will be suspended pending a review of all images and conditions.

While analyzing the video footage, SAR members will look for clues about the individuals, including clothing, tracks and signs.

Chute tells people to “stay away” from Atwell Peak.

RCMP also continue to urge people to avoid entering the Mount Garibaldi and Atwell Peak area this weekend.
