Briana Mohler sentenced in Logan County death of Chloe Hodge

Briana Mohler, 33, pleaded guilty last month to aggravated vehicular homicide, OVI and driving with a suspended license in the death of Chloe Hodge.

LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio — A woman who admitted to being impaired in a crash that killed a 17-year-old girl in Logan County earlier this year was sentenced Tuesday.

Briana Mohler, 33, pleaded guilty last month to aggravated vehicular homicide, OVI and driving with a suspended license. Mohler faced a manslaughter charge, but it was later dismissed. A judge sentenced her to 11 to 16.5 years in prison for aggravated vehicular homicide. She was also sentenced to 180 days in jail for the OVI charge, which will be served concurrently.

Mohler's conviction comes months after a Jan. 25 crash that claimed the life of Chloe Hodge.

Mohler was driving a 2000 Ford F-150 north on County Road 130 when she headed left of center and into the path of Chloe, who was driving a 2011 Honda CR-Z. The vehicles collided head-on .

A police accident report says investigators tested Mohler's blood for suspected drug use. She was taken to hospital where she had recently admitted to using drugs.

Chloe was taken to hospital and died from her injuries.

Chloe was a student at Indian Lake High School and was part of the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center's health career academy.

At a plea hearing last month, Logan County Prosecutor Eric Stewart said Mohler should never have been on the road that day. Mohler was also out on bail for aggravated possession of drugs.

In addition to the prison sentence, Mohler will be on probation for two to five years once she is released. She will also never be allowed to have a driver's license again.
