BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – If you're like me, you don't watch the news anymore because all they want to publish are dark and doom stories and, of course, agenda-driven news articles .

Well, here at the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, we love sharing with our citizens all the great work our team does removing criminals from our streets, working with local charities to keep Brevard the place amazing that it is, and of course, the incredible stories that save and change the lives of our team members that they are a part of every day.

Stories like what happened last week when one of our telecommunicators, Christian Wark, who was assigned to one of our fire and rescue consoles, received a frantic call from a young man telling him that his sister was about to give birth!

Christian quickly went through his protocols and verified that mom's water had broken and the baby's head was already crowned.

Christian provided the expectant mother and her mother, who was now on the phone, with step-by-step instructions on what exactly to do, as rescue personnel were still minutes away and the baby, well, the baby simply refused to wait.

Whether it was laying the mother on her back so as not to prevent the birth, or asking her to take clean, dry towels to clean and wrap the baby and the mother during the birth, Christian had completely in control and even if he could do it. Although he panicked inside, he never let it show to those who desperately depended on him.

Thanks to Christian's help and knowledge, the baby was born suddenly and he could be heard crying and making these awesome new baby noises.

Even with this, Christian was not finished, as he ordered that the baby be held at the mother's buttocks and that the baby's mouth and nose be cleaned and free of any obstructions.

Shortly after, the Rescue 88 team arrived at the scene and gave medical clearance to the mother and the newborn who were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

I couldn't be more proud of Christian for all he did to provide assistance during this very stressful time to everyone involved.

Christian not only remained calm himself, but with his calm demeanor, he managed to keep the mother-to-be and everyone at the residence calm with the assurance that everything would be okay.

My friends, these are the kinds of life-changing actions that our Brevard County Fire Department team members and partners encounter every day as they go to work with one thing on their minds : ensuring the safety of our citizens.

Great job Christian!
