After his arrest in Rye in 2023, News 9 Investigates discovered that Vidal was convicted of 11 murders in Brazil. The Brazilian government said Vidal was a military police officer when he participated in a revenge killing known as the Curio massacre in 2015.

He then came to the United States where he lived in Merrimack with his wife and daughter.

Vidal's lawyer, Felipe Cruz, sent a statement to News 9, saying in part: “…there is no final conviction under Brazilian law. In other words, he is considered innocent in the eyes of the law until all appeals are exhausted…we consider any imprisonment to be unjust.”

A court hearing is scheduled for next week.
