Brave Indian Teen Finds Out He Has Cancer, Hides It From Family

A devastated Indian teenager hid his cancer diagnosis from his own family because he did not want to upset them, it has emerged.

The brave 13-year-old boy, named Santhosh, received a letter telling him that he had the deadly disease, but he decided to hide it from his family as he was afraid that his devoted parents “would not be able to bear” the news that he might die.

The incident happened in India and the terrified teenager confided only in his uncle.

He said his grandmother died of cancer, which made him hesitant to reveal that he suffered from the same disease.

Santhosh said, “I told my uncle not to tell anyone about my cancer. My mother knows that I am sick but does not know that I am suffering from cancer.”

The father has since learned of his son's illness and despite the farming family being saddled with debt due to a farming crisis caused by a lack of rainfall, he is now raising money through crowdfunding sites to raise the vital money needed for his son's treatment.

Santhosh needs a bone marrow transplant and even if a matching donor is found, the operation is expected to cost A$29,118 (Rs 1.5 million).

His uncle wrote on a fundraising website: “His platelet count has dropped dramatically.”

“He's a brilliant student and very good at sports too, he was once a basketball champion at school. Now? He can't even walk anymore!”

Santhosh continues to go to school while awaiting his fate.

He said: “I want to continue my studies and make my parents happy, but I hope cancer doesn't kill me like it killed my grandmother.”
