Boy, 16, arrested after teenager stabbed to death in Birmingham

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another teenager was stabbed to death in Birmingham.

Hazrat Umar, 17, died at the scene after being attacked on Norwood Road, in the Bordesley Green area of ​​the city, yesterday afternoon.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course, West Midlands Police said.

Hazrat is the third teenager in a fortnight to be stabbed to death in Birmingham.

His family is supported by specialist agents.

South and City College, where he enrolled in an electrical engineering course last September, said he was “extremely shocked and saddened.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Payne said police were “doing everything we can to tackle knife crime”.

He added: “Intensive investigations are mercilessly pursuing those who wish to cause this harm in our communities.

“We use our stop and search powers to target those carrying knives, seize weapons and work with young people to talk about the dangers of carrying weapons.”

The attack on Hazrat came five days after Abdullah Muhammad, 16, was fatally injured near a park in Small Heath.

A week before that, Sidali Mohamed, 16, died in hospital after being stabbed outside Joseph Chamberlain College in Highgate.

A 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with a leg injury after being stabbed in a shop in Birmingham city center on Tuesday.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid has said he is “very concerned” about knife crime in the West Midlands.

It increased by 72% between April 2013 and the year ending March 2018, according to analysis by the Office for National Statistics.
