A 15-year-old boy has tragically died following a crash in Newcastle, while a second teenager remains in hospital under arrest.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “In the early hours of this morning (Monday) we attended a collision involving one vehicle which occurred on Stamfordham Road in West Denton.

“Emergency services attended and unfortunately a 15-year-old boy was fatally injured.

“A second boy, aged 16, is currently hospitalized and treated for non-life-threatening injuries – and is currently under arrest.”

An investigation was launched into all the circumstances and resulted in the arrest of two further people on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They remain in police custody for the moment.

Inspector Dean Hood, of Northumbria Police's Roads Policing Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a young person has sadly lost his life.

“Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this extremely difficult time, and they are currently being supported by our specially trained officers.
