Boy, 15, arrested in fatal Mount Baker shooting

A 15-year-old boy was arrested Monday in connection with a fatal shooting in Seattle's Mount Baker neighborhood.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. Sunday in the 3600 block of 34th Avenue. The Seattle Police Department said responding officers found a 22-year-old man suffering from “multiple” gunshot wounds in the stairwell of an apartment building.

Police said the man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition, where he died from his injuries.

In an update Tuesday afternoon, SPD said homicide unit detectives arrested a 15-year-old suspect with the assistance of the Des Moines Police Department.

The 15-year-old was booked into the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center, which is King County's youth detention center, for investigation into a murder.

King County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Casey McNerthney said the 15-year-old made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon. McNerthney said the 15-year-old had “no prior referral to the King County Prosecutor's Office.”

A judge found probable cause for second-degree murder involving use of a firearm and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

Prosecutors requested that the teen be placed in secure custody, which McNerthney said was also the juvenile probation counselor's request, which was granted.
