Boxing star Ryan Garcia arrested

Boxing star Ryan Garcia was arrested Saturday, June 8, for an incident at a Beverly Hills hotel, a Beverly Hills Police Department watch commander confirmed. ESPN.

Garcia, 25, was charged with vandalism in connection with accusations that he caused $15,000 in damage to the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills around 5:45 p.m. local time. The boxer can also be accused of public drunkenness, his lawyer, Darin Chavezconfirmed to ESPN.

The precise nature of the damage and Garcia's behavior were not immediately clear Sunday (June 9) morning. Garcia reportedly complained of a medical issue after being booked into the Beverly Hills Police Department jail and was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

Chávez issued a statement to ESPN saying the arrest took place during “an extraordinarily difficult time for Ryan, as he grappled with devastating news regarding his mother's health.”

“Ryan has spoken openly about his mental health struggles over the years, and right now he is facing an immense emotional burden,” Chavez said. “The support and understanding of fans and the public is crucial as he navigates these personal challenges. We are working diligently to provide Ryan with the resources he needs. Our team is committed to ensuring he receives the help and appropriate care to deal with both his immediate and long-term well-being. We ask for continued support and compassion as Ryan focuses on his family and his health at this time.

Garcia (25-1, 20 KO) is already facing suspension from the New York Athletic Commission after testing positive for a banned substance, ostarine, ahead of his victory over the WBC junior welterweight champion. Devin Haney — which was reported after the fight — in April. The California native knocked out Haney three times during the match, but was ineligible to win the title as he was 3.2 pounds over the limit before the fight.

A decision on the match regarding Garcia's positive test will be made by the commission soon.
