Boulder View Fire at 3,200 acres; homes evacuated in Scottsdale

Homes were evacuated Thursday night as a massive brush fire spread to 3,200 acres in north Scottsdale near the community of Boulder Heights. Winds and hot, dry conditions fueled the Boulder View Fire, which was at 0% containment with about 180 people affected, according to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. The fire, which is being investigated as human-caused, broke out Thursday afternoon.

As of 11:30 p.m. Thursday, homes on the southeast side of the fire were being evacuated by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, according to the Forestry Department. Evacuations were taking place Thursday east of 136th Street to 144th, north of Dove Valley and west and south of the Tonto National Forest boundary, the department said. Aircraft were expected to extinguish the fire Friday morning, the department added.

Burning operations contained the fire from Bartlett Dam Road to Power Line Road, according to the department, while multiple crews were working in the Vista Verde community to try to stop the fire from spreading in that direction.

Authorities evacuated five buildings near the fire Thursday evening and roads were closed, according to the department. The fire was first reported shortly after 2:30 p.m.
