Boston police arrest man wanted for 2019 Roxbury stabbing, recover loaded firearm

BOSTON — Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force officers captured a man wanted for a 2019 stabbing and recovered a loaded firearm at a Roxbury park on June 15.

Adilson Tavares, 29, of Mattapan, was arrested after officers recognized him riding a motorized scooter near Howard St. and Dewey St. around 12:05 p.m.

Police said Tavares had been charged in connection with a nonfatal stabbing that occurred at 101 Hampden St. in Roxbury in July 2019 and had fled the country following his indictment in Suffolk Superior Court.

Upon spotting Tavares, officers broadcast his description and began searching the area.

They found the scooter parked at Denis Street Park at 138 Moreland St., and spotted Tavares among a small group of people.

With backup officers securing the area, Tavares tried to escape on his scooter as police approached but was apprehended after a brief struggle.

A firearm was found in a fanny pack he was wearing.

Detectives identified the weapon as a 9 mm Bersa “Thunder 9 Ultra Compact Pro” with a full magazine and one round in the chamber.

Tavares is set to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on multiple charges, including armed assault with intent to murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
