Bond revoked for suspect in teen's death at Cottage Hill party: NorthEscambia.com

Bond was revoked for the 19-year-old charged in the April fatal shooting of a 16-year-old at a party at a Cottage Hill home.

Ethan Alexander O'Brien, 19, is back in the Escambia County Jail, charged with second-degree negligent manslaughter after Escambia County Judge John Simon revoked his $300 bond 000 $. He was also charged with tampering with evidence and improper exhibition of a firearm. Court hearing documents do not indicate why bail was revoked.

O'Brien is due back in court in September.

The investigation determined that during a large gathering at the residence, O'Brien (photo) was displaying his firearm and it accidentally fired, striking 16-year-old Bryson Allen. O'Brien fled the scene before officers arrived,” the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12 at a home in the 600 block of Wishbone Road. Allen was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Emergency dispatchers received a call from a person who told them they heard a gunshot coming from their neighbor's house and that someone was yelling “help me.” Another caller reported hearing a gunshot and two vehicles leaving, and people knocking on other residents' doors.

Another caller reported that a man had been shot in the stomach and leg. Another 911 call reported that a 16-year-old man had been shot in the chest and was not breathing.

Officers arrived on scene and found a man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest. Deputies unsuccessfully performed CPR and used an AED to attempt to resuscitate Allen, who was pronounced deceased by Escambia County Emergency Medical Services.

A 17-year-old witness told police that O'Brien took his gun out of his trunk and pulled it out while trying to shoot, the report states. O'Brien then raised the gun halfway and fired. The witness told police she did not feel like O'Brien was deliberately trying to shoot the victim.

Another witness, a 17-year-old man, said he heard a gunshot and screaming about five minutes after arriving home. He said O'Brien pointed the gun. “He believed he was playing with the gun and felt he did not shoot intentionally,” the report states.

Another 17-year-old witness told police she had invited some friends over and was inside when the incident happened. She heard a gunshot and went outside to find Allen on the ground and asked him who was responsible.

“You want us to get in trouble, and he said I had to leave,” she indicated, O'Brien said. She continues that before the incident, O'Brien showed her the gun that was in his trunk and she asked to shoot it. She said she did not fire what she described to investigators as a “big gun.”

Allen grabbed his side after being shot and said, “You just shot me, bro” before falling to the ground, another 17-year-old witness told law enforcement. He said O'Brien owned an “AR” style rifle and was playing with it before the shooting.
