Body of teenager found in Watts Bar Lake, near Rockwood, Tennessee

ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The body of a 19-year-old man was found in Watts Bar Lake early Sunday morning after he jumped from a boat and did not resurface, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency .

The TWRA released that a 911 call shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday reported that a man had jumped from a boat and did not resurface.


Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, TWRA and local agencies used a remotely operated vehicle to locate and recover the man's body. TWRA identified the man as Braeden Hartup, 19, of Roane County.

At the scene, witnesses told TWRA that Hatrup and ten others were on a pontoon anchored just south of Rockwood, near the Winton Chapel access area. The TWRA said witnesses reported Hartup decided to swim and jumped into the water from the front of the boat. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Hartup's body was transported to the Knox County Medical Examiner's Office. The matter is still under investigation.

According to the TWRA, this is the eighth boating-related fatality of the year.
