Body of missing canoeist found just west of Curtain Falls

Authorities have located the body of the second missing canoeist who crossed Curtain Falls, between Crooked Lake and Iron Lake on the Minnesota-Ontario border, on May 18. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, the body of 40-year-old Reis Melvin Grams. , of Lino Lakes, Minnesota, was located on Monday, June 3.

According to a news release, Reis Grams was found shortly after 10 a.m. Search teams located Grams just west of Curtain Falls in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and the St. Louis County Rescue Team had been searching for the canoes for nearly two weeks.

Grams was flown to the Ely Sea Plane Aircraft Base in Ely, Minnesota.

All the missing people have been found.

On Friday, May 31, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and the St. Louis County Rescue Team located the body of Jesse Melvin Haugen, 41, of Cambridge, MN.

The two men were part of a group of five people spread out in two canoes. According to initial reports from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, two canoes crossed the falls. Two of the men were later rescued and a third was found at a nearby campsite.
