Body of missing British TV presenter Dr Michael Mosley found on Greek island

The body of missing British television presenter Dr Michael Mosley has been found, according to Greek authorities. Mosley, a British television doctor, was reported missing on Wednesday, June 5, after he failed to return home from a hike on the Greek island of Symi. His body was discovered a few days later, Sunday June 9, on a beach on Agia Marina, a Greek island, spotted among rocks on a rugged coastline by a group on a boat including the local mayor and journalists.

Mosley's wife, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, said Michael, 67, went missing on Wednesday after taking a walk from Agios Nikolaos beach. It's unclear what happened, but Clare reported Michael missing within hours. According to CCTV footage, a man believed to be Michael was seen walking across the coast amid intense heat and rocky terrain.

Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley said in a statement (according to BBC.com) that her husband took the wrong route while hiking and collapsed just before reaching a marina, in a place where his body could not not be easily seen: “We are reassured to know that he almost made it. It made an incredible climb, took the wrong path and collapsed where it couldn't be easily seen by the vast search team. Michael was an adventurous man, which is part of what made him so special. It's devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We have had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together. We are so grateful to the amazing people at Symi who worked tirelessly to help find him. Some of these people on the island, who hadn't even heard of Michael, worked from dawn to dusk without being asked. Michael and Clare shared four children, who joined the couple on Greek holidays: “I am incredibly proud of our children and their resilience and support over the past few days. My family and I have been extremely comforted by the outpouring of love from people around the world. It is clear that Michael meant a lot to many of you. … I feel so lucky to have our children and my wonderful friends. Most of all, I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael. »

According to ABC News, Mosley was well known in Britain for his numerous programs on the BBC, his regular appearances on television and radio and his column in the “Daily Mail” newspaper. Michael was also a pioneer of the 5:2 diet, which he launched in the midst of a battle with diabetes and promised to help people lose weight quickly by minimizing their calorie intake two days a week while still eating healthily the other five days. His 2013 book “The Fast Diet” was co-written with journalist Mimi Spencer. Spencer told BBC Radio 4: “In person, he was very much the kind of character you would see on television: immediately likeable, really funny, enthusiastic, he had this innate enthusiasm for life and he was always very generous with his time. He never blew a trumpet, he was a rather humble person.
