The body of a missing American has been found on the small Greek island of Mathraki.

He was discovered on a remote, rocky beach on Sunday, three days after being reported missing by the friend he was staying with.

The tourist was last seen on Tuesday in a cafe with two women who have since left the island.

Mathraki has only 100 inhabitants and is a heavily forested island west of Corfu.

There have been several recent cases of tourists dying or missing on Greek islands, many of them going hiking in hot weather.

On Saturday, the body of a 74-year-old Dutch man was discovered by a fire brigade drone, lying face down in a ravine.

He was found just 300 meters from where he was last seen six days earlier, walking with difficulty in the scorching heat.

Greek authorities continue to search for three missing tourists in the Cyclades island group.

Two French women aged 64 and 73 were reported missing on Friday in Sikinos and had left their hotels to find each other.

Meanwhile, the search continues for a 59-year-old American tourist who went on a solo hike in hot conditions in Amorgos and has not been seen since Tuesday.
