Body found under North State Highway 3 bridge, family used Find My Friends app to find it, League City police say

LEAGUE CITY, Texas (KTRK) – A League City man who had been missing for the past two days was found dead by family and friends Sunday morning.

Police believe he crashed his motorcycle into the State Highway 3 barrier, plunging 15 feet onto the banks of Clear Creek near Webster.

The man was last heard from on Friday around 9:15 p.m. 24 hours later, his family filed a missing person's report with the League City Police Department.

Around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, family and friends, who police said had spent the weekend searching, found the man dead along the banks of Clear Creek. They used the Find My Friends app to track his location.

The man's death prompted Elijah Torres, 20, and his mother, Tonya Monet, to start a petition calling for roadway improvements.

In 2021, Torres, then 18, dove over the same concrete barrier. His spinal cord was severed and he was paralyzed from the chest down.

A passing motorist spotted him and called 911.

“I think it’s very possible that no one did it,” Torres said.

Torres and his mother spent years contacting TXDOT, League City Public Works and attorneys to ask that the dip in the road that knocked Torres off his motorcycle be filled.

“I think the saddest thing for me is knowing that this could have been prevented and a life could have been saved,” Torres said.

Torres turns 21 on Monday. After spending weeks in a coma, it's a milestone his family feared he would never see.

“There are people whose whole lives have changed,” he said.

Earlier this month, two people were hospitalized following a three-car crash at the same location.

“I'm not the first person to get hurt here and I'm definitely not the last,” Torres said.
