Body found in Frederick County has been identified

FREDERICK COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) – A body found in Frederick County has been identified.

According to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, Jason Diego Abarca was last seen fleeing the area of a suspected carjacking in Winchester on December 13.

The vehicle allegedly seized at knifepoint from a commercial parking lot on Berryville Avenue crashed and was later found abandoned along Star Tannery Road in Frederick County that evening. Attempts to find the driver were unsuccessful.

Since then, law enforcement has used devices and personnel from various local agencies and organizations to try to find the driver.

On April 29, search teams discovered a body in a wooded area. The Northern District Chief Medical Examiner's Office has now identified the body as that of Jason Abarca.

A total of 78 people participated in the April 29 search that located Abarca.
