Body found in crashed car in southeastern Minnesota, driver arrested

Eyota, Minn. (KROC-AM News) – A woman is in custody after deputies found a body inside a crashed vehicle on I-90 in Olmsted County over the weekend.

That's according to a press release issued Monday morning by the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.

Police found the damaged vehicle and body around 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

The vehicle crashed on I-90 and Hwy. Interchange 42 just south of Eyota. Police found the body of a 35-year-old woman in the back of the vehicle, the release said.

The release states that the condition of the body indicates that the woman did not die as a result of a car accident. Margo Lewis, 32 years old was identified as the driver.

Police found a passerby tending to her when they arrived at the scene. Lewis was taken from the scene of the crash to St. Mary's Hospital and then transported to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center once she was medically cleared, according to authorities.

Capt. Tim Parkin of the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office said Lewis, whose residence is unknown, was arrested on suspicion of interference with a corpse.

She is being held behind bars and is expected to make her first appearance Tuesday in Olmsted County Court. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), Eyota Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.

The woman's death remains under investigation and no further information is being released at this time.
