Bodies of two missing swimmers found in search off Windsor Beach

The bodies of two international students who went missing in the water at Windsor's Sandpoint Beach have been found, according to Windsor police.

In a social media post Friday evening, police said the bodies of the two men were found shortly before 8 p.m. — just over a day after police received a report of a possible drowning on the beach.

Police reported that twomen, aged 22 and 25, had disappeared in the water around 7 p.m. Thursday.

“Two individuals and a friend entered the water on the west side of the beach, adjacent to the land where vessels unload sand and gravel,” police spokesman Gary Francoeur told the Star.

The western part of the public beach is located near a dangerous drop-off with strong currents and is fenced and has signs indicating that swimming is prohibited in this area.

Multiple officers were called to the scene, as were the Windsor Police Marine Unit, the Canadian and US Coast Guard, Windsor Fire and Rescue and Essex Emergency Medical Services- Windsor. Drones were also deployed to facilitate searches.

The police had described the two individuals as East Indian and wearing only swimwear.

Windsor police said the deaths of the two men are not considered suspicious.
