The bodies of a man and woman found in a wooded area off Sheffield Road near the Iredell-Davie County line have been positively identified.

The Davie County Sheriff's Office announced in a news release that the bodies of Cynthia Gobble and Greg Gobble were found around 11 a.m. Friday.

On Thursday, Davie County authorities issued an Ashanti Alert for the couple.

On Wednesday, around 10 p.m., DCSO deputies were dispatched to check on Cynthia Gobble after families reported they had not been able to contact her since late in the afternoon, according to the press release.

Relatives reported that the Gobbles were in the middle of divorce proceedings. Deputies confirmed Cynthia Gobble was not at 348 Country Lane in Mocksville and found evidence indicating she may not have left alone, according to the news release.

Deputies and family members checked other locations the Gobbles frequented and electronically attempted to locate them, but were unsuccessful.

Deputies were also unable to locate Greg Gobble's white Ford truck, although they confirmed he had driven the truck earlier in the day. The Gobbles were then reported missing and a law enforcement alert was issued for the couple and the vehicle.

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office received a call Friday that two bodies had been located. The bodies were later identified as those of Cynthia and Greg Gobble.

The Gobbles died as a result of the gunfire and the gun was found at the scene, according to the news release.

Evidence at the scene indicates Greg Gobble shot Cynthia Gobble and then shot himself, DCSO said.

Davie County Deputies continued to process the scene on Country Lane and ICSO assisted in processing the scene where the Gobbles were located.

Detectives continue to investigate the case and are asking members of the public who may have information about the Gobbles' activities on May 29 or 30 to contact them at 336-751-6238 or [email protected].
