Bob Iger and Willow Bay set to buy Angel City FC for $50 million

Willow Bay, dean of the USC School of Journalism, and Bob Iger, Disney CEO and Bay's husband, are reportedly close to a deal to buy a majority stake in Los Angeles women's professional soccer team Angel City FC for more than $50 million.

The deal would make Angel City FC the most valuable women's sports club in the world. If the deal goes through, Bay and Iger would replace Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian as the team's majority shareholder. According to Semafor, Bay and Iger's investment would value the team at $300 million. Puck's Dylan Byers previously reported that Bay was close to closing a deal for Angel City FC.

Representatives for Angel City FC and Disney did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Angel City FC generated $31 million in revenue in 2023, nearly double the next-closest NWSL team, San Diego Wave FC, which brought in $16.3 million, according to Sportico.

Angel City FC’s three co-founding partners are Natalie Portman, Kara Nortman and Julie Uhrman. The team, which began play with the 2022 NWSL season, has dozens of other investors, including celebrities like Serena Williams, Billie Jean King, Jennifer Garner, Eva Longoria and former U.S. women’s national soccer team stars Mia Hamm, Shannon Boxx and Julie Foudy.
