Boat fire at Crandon marina insults two females

A midday boat fire at the Crandon Marina in Key Biscayne injured two female passengers Sunday, authorities and witnesses said.

Large plumes of black smoke poured into the sky, images on social media showed. The fire was extinguished by City of Miami and Key Biscayne firefighters, leaving the boat covered in foam. Key Biscayne police also responded.

The vessel caught fire at a slip at the marina, said City of Miami Fire Rescue spokesperson Lt. Pete Sanchez. He said one of the injuries was serious enough to require an airlift. One of the injured, a 25 year old woman, was said to be in stable condition after a lower leg injury. The age or condition of the airlifted patient was not known.

Although there were some reports of an explosion, there was no information about the cause of the blaze, which is under investigation by Miami-Dade County Fire officials. It was contained to just one boat. “There was nothing else around, luckily,” Sanchez said.
