Blue Ridge Parkway shooting leaves 1 injured; 'No threat,' says NPS

ASHEVILLE – A 19-year-old man was shot on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville on May 29 and is in critical condition, National Park Service spokeswoman Leesa Brandon told the Citizen Times.

National Park Service rangers responded to the incident at 2:02 p.m., in which a single gunshot victim was found on the parkway property at Milepost 398, near the NC Arboretum, Brandon said. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries. The suspect has not yet been arrested, Brandon said.

An initial investigation led rangers to believe it was a targeted crime posing no threat to the public, Brandon said.

The victim was identified as a 19-year-old man who is in critical condition at Mission Hospital and suspect information will be released as “NPS gathers information,” Brandon said .
