Blue 2 Fire near Ruidoso is 6,000 acres, still 0% contained

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Blue 2 Fire outside Ruidoso, New Mexico, has grown to more than 6,000 acres and continues to be 0% contained, according to the latest information released Sunday by the New Mexico Forestry Division. May 26.

The fire is burning about 8 miles north of Ruidoso and was started by lightning on May 16.


Additional firefighters have arrived and more resources are on the way, according to the New Mexico Forestry Division.

“Firefighters are working along the most active areas of the fire where they can respond safely and are working day and night. Air resources will be used to water and drop retardant on the fire if weather conditions permit,” according to the press release.

Currently, 475 firefighters are battling the fire with 42 engines, five helicopters and two bulldozers, according to the release.

“The fire was more active on the northeast and south perimeters. A one-acre spot fire was
detected in Dry Mills Canyon and a 100-acre spot fire was detected on Solider Mountain,” according to the release.
